Cambodian Construction Worker Electrocuted While Charging Phone

A tragic accident occurred in Samlot village, Samlot commune, Samlot district, Battambang province on the afternoon of September 12, where a 20-year-old residential construction worker was electrocuted to death. The young man was reportedly charging his mobile phone and accidentally touched a live part of the electrical outlet due to carelessness. The victim, identified as Hiet Hien, was a residential construction worker. According to local police, Hien was attempting to plug his phone charger into an electrical outlet but inadvertently touched the live socket with his finger, resulting in electrocution. Witnesses to the incident stated that Hien's finger likely entered the electrical socket while he was plugging in the charger, leading to the fatal shock. After being electrocuted, Hien collapsed unconscious. He was transported to a health center under the direction of his foreman, but was unfortunately pronounced dead upon arrival. This incident underscores the critical importance of basic safety measures when using everyday electrical appliances. In developing countries, in particular, aging infrastructure and a lack of awareness regarding safety standards can contribute to such tragedies. As Cambodia experiences economic growth and a booming construction sector, ensuring worker safety remains a pressing concern.
