Kampong Thom Police Deploy Over 700 Officers for Sambor Prei Kuk Cycling and Obstacle Race Event
Kampong Thom province is deploying over 700 police officers to secure the 'Road-Map' cycling and obstacle race event at the Sambor Prei Kuk temple complex on July 5. The event aims to celebrate the 9th anniversary of the site's UNESCO World Heritage inscription and promote cultural tourism.
The Kampong Thom Provincial Police are preparing to deploy over 700 police officers to ensure security, safety, and public order during the "Road-Map" cycling and obstacle race event scheduled to take place at the Sambor Prei Kuk temple complex on July 5, 2026. Provincial Police Commissioner Heng Sophal, a Major General, led a meeting on June 29 to review the security plan for the event. Major General Heng Sophal stated that the provincial police are fully prepared with comprehensive measures in terms of personnel, equipment, and operational plans to guarantee the security, safety, public order, and traffic facilitation for leaders, athletes, and national and international guests attending the event. The "Road-Map" cycling and obstacle race event at Sambor Prei Kuk is themed "The Road to Isanapura, Chenla Mon of the Angkorian Era." It is organized to celebrate the 9th anniversary of the Sambor Prei Kuk temple complex's inscription on the World Heritage List (July 8, 2017 - July 8, 2026). The event also aims to promote the potential of cultural heritage tourism and nature to boost tourist arrivals during the green season. To ensure the smooth running of the event, a total of 705 police officers will be deployed, comprising 165 officers from the provincial police headquarters and 540 officers from municipal and district police forces. Operational vehicles and equipment include 7 siren vehicles, 10 fire trucks, 2 ambulances, 6 pursuit motorcycles, and 450 communication radios. Major General Heng Sophal urged all forces to perform their duties with high responsibility, discipline, and solidarity to ensure the event proceeds safely and successfully.
