Angkor Writing Contest Returns for 4th Edition to Promote Khmer Literature

The 4th "Angkor Writing Contest," an event aimed at preserving and promoting Khmer literature, will be held on January 17, 2027, in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. This contest is positioned as a crucial opportunity to foster national consciousness, safeguard the identity of Khmer literature across generations, and pass on its roots to the next generation. According to the organizers, the 4th edition will accept a total of 2,000 participants from both within Cambodia and abroad. Registration for participants will commence on September 19. Lim Bunhok, the chairman of the organizing committee, stated that this 4th edition will be even more special than previous ones, with significantly increased prize money. The "Angkor Writing Contest" is an event designed to promote Khmer literature through dictation, aiming to become an annual "Dictation Day" focused on the Angkorian heritage. In the previous, 3rd edition, a total of 1,860 participants, including monks, took part. Among them, 231 were monks. The oldest participant was 82 years old, and the youngest was 5 years old. This initiative is drawing attention for its contribution to the inheritance and development of Khmer script, a part of Cambodia's rich cultural heritage. It is expected to contribute to the rise of national pride and the promotion of cultural tourism within the country.
