Vietnam's tourism sector is entering a new era of growth, with international visitor numbers showing robust recovery and strategic initiatives aimed at elevating the country's tourism brand. By the end of August 2026, Vietnam welcomed nearly 16 million international visitors, reaching 63.6% of its full-year target. This figure represents a 14.4% year-on-year increase, with notable growth observed from long-haul markets, including Russia (up 165.7%), Europe (53.4%), the Americas (20.7%), and Australia (23.3%). Tourism is recognized as a practical area of cooperation that fosters mutual understanding and friendship between peoples, while simultaneously creating development opportunities for localities and businesses. Politburo Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW prioritizes the development of three major tourism growth poles: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang, with plans to gradually transform Phu Quoc Island into a new growth pole. The resolution also calls for the establishment of 10 key tourism centers and 20 national tourism areas. Collaborations are underway to introduce more premium hospitality brands to Vietnam, expand the scope of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism, and enhance the international profile of Vietnamese destinations. Da Nang, for instance, is highlighted for its ability to offer diverse experiences within a single trip, from relaxing by My Khe Beach to exploring nature, savoring local cuisine, and visiting cultural and entertainment sites. This versatility appeals to both leisure travelers and those seeking an activity-packed itinerary. Strategic cooperation pillars between Vietnam and the United States, spanning payments, hospitality, and aviation, are moving high-level commitments toward tangible projects. Phu Quoc Island is increasingly being recognized as a prime destination for seaside holidays, attracting travelers from Asia to Europe. For Russian visitors, a 45-day visa exemption offers an advantage for extended stays. Vietnam's tourism sector has set ambitious targets for 2026, aiming to attract 25 million foreign arrivals, facilitate 150 million domestic trips, and generate total revenue of VND 1,125 trillion (approximately US$43 billion). To achieve these goals, promotional activities and infrastructure development are being intensified across various regions. Source: VietnamPlus English
