Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, deputy spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, stated that the government, under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, is prioritizing policies to upgrade transportation and tourism infrastructure, enhancing the potential of tourist cities and stimulating regional economies. The Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with Airports Department, Thai AirAsia, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), is integrating efforts to prepare for the resumption of international flights on the Hua Hin-Kuala Lumpur route, with intentions to expand to other international routes in the future. Deputy Transport Minister Mr. Pattarapong Pattaraprasit has been closely monitoring the progress of Hua Hin Airport's upgrade. Following a site visit on May 28, efforts are focused on quickly resolving technical limitations of the runway to meet Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) safety standards, thereby enabling the reopening of the facility to international flights and enhancing air travel connectivity. Yesterday, representatives from the Ministries of Transport and Tourism and Sports participated in a "Market and Customer Insights Workshop" in Hua Hin. Over a hundred tourism and service operators from the area also attended. The workshop facilitated information exchange to determine the direction of Hua Hin's tourism development, analyze the potential of tourism products and services, and study the needs of foreign tourists to better align tourism products and activities with market demands, according to Lalita. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hua Hin Airport operated direct flights to Kuala Lumpur, which were highly successful, with over 1,000 flights carrying more than 130,000 passengers.
