Thailand to Suspend Vehicle Tax Stickers for Unpaid Traffic Fines from August 1st

The Thai government will change the method of issuing vehicle tax stickers for vehicles with outstanding traffic fines starting August 1, 2025. This initiative is part of the Road Safety Master Plan 2025-2030, aiming to achieve the target of reducing road accident fatalities to 12 per 100,000 population. To align with United Nations guidelines, the Royal Thai Police and the Department of Land Transport have collaborated to link a new traffic ticket system, enhancing the efficiency of law enforcement. The new system will allow citizens to clearly access and review their violation records and details (including copies of the ticket, reminder notices, postal receipts, and information of the issuing officer) before paying fines. From August 1, 2025, individuals who commit traffic violations and fail to pay their fines will receive a reminder notice according to legal procedures. If payment is not made within the specified period, the outstanding violation record will be linked to the Department of Land Transport. This entire process is expected to take approximately 60-90 days from the date the ticket is issued. While vehicle owners with outstanding violations can still pay their annual vehicle tax through the registrar, they will not receive the physical tax sticker until all fines are settled.
