5-year plan to eliminate unsightly and tangled fiber cables and unauthorized cables in Mandalay Region cities

It has been revealed that a 5-year plan is being formulated and implemented to eliminate unsightly and tangled fiber cables, as well as fiber cables installed without permission, in cities within the Mandalay Region, according to U Kyaw Moe Thet, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, who spoke at a parliamentary session on September 24. Daw Win Win Lat, the regional parliament representative for Malaing Township, inquired about plans for the systematic installation of Wi-Fi and electricity cables on the roads within the Mandalay Region, and for the maintenance, upkeep, and clearing of unused Wi-Fi and electricity cables. In response to this question, it was stated that a 5-year plan has been drawn up to inspect and clear fiber cables that are not installed in accordance with the directives issued by the Directorate of Communications under the Ministry of Digital Development and Communications, which are causing unsightly conditions and confusion in the cities within the region, and to ensure that there are no fiber cables installed without permission. The implementation of this plan began in Cham Aye San Township on July 2, 2026. Furthermore, in order to establish international-standard fiber networks in Mandalay City, efforts are underway to transition overhead fiber cables to an underground fiber network system. This is being carried out on seven major roads: 78th Street (from 26th Street to Science Street), 73rd Street (from 26th Street to 41st Street), 66th Street (from 26th Street to Science Street), 62nd Street (from 26th Street to Science Street), 27th Street (from 62nd Street to 78th Street), 30th Street (from 62nd Street to 78th Street) (from 79th Street to 84th Street), 35th Street (from 62nd Street to 78th Street), (from 80th Street to 84th Street). The work on the cross-street cables on 78th Street (from 26th Street to Science Street) has been completed. Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications is also in the process of transitioning the overhead cables on 73rd Street (from 26th Street to 41st Street) to an underground network system, it was added.
