Nearly 80% of Toyota Tsusho Workers are TVET Graduates, Boosting Cambodian Auto Assembly

Nearly 80% of employees at Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., responsible for assembling and manufacturing vehicles, are graduates of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions. On August 3, 2026, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, Heng Sour, visited the company and, during a meeting with workers, highly praised TVET education for meeting industry needs and contributing to youth employment and economic development. The minister expressed his intention to understand the daily working conditions of the employees and to provide support based on the directives of former Prime Minister Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet. He emphasized promoting close relationships between workers and employers and aiming to avoid labor disputes such as strikes by encouraging legal dispute resolution. He expressed particular delight that many employees are TVET graduates, stating this is a source of pride for the students themselves, TVET institutions, and the nation. Noting that Toyota is a high-quality brand widely used in Cambodia, he praised the fact that Cambodian citizens are assembling vehicles as a significant achievement. Furthermore, he encouraged the workers to enroll in more advanced vocational training courses at TVET institutions and urged them to strive for professional skill enhancement. This is expected to lead to increased productivity, factory development, and contributions to the national economy. The minister highly commended the factory management for providing employment opportunities and complying with labor laws, while also noting the company's technological management system and comfortable working environment. The Ministry of Labour will continue to cooperate with the company to further enhance training opportunities, employment, and income. Factory owner Oknha Kong Nuon expressed his gratitude for the government and Ministry of Labour's attention to the welfare and working conditions of the employees, stating that this strengthens the close cooperative relationship between the company and the ministry for the development of Cambodia's industry. Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing began operations on May 2, 2024, and currently employs 142 workers (including 24 women).
