Exhibition Showcases Scholarly Legacy of Le Quy Don

An exhibition in Hanoi is showcasing the extensive scholarly contributions of Le Quy Don, a prominent Vietnamese scholar and cultural figure, through a collection of photographs, historical documents, woodblock reproductions, stone inscriptions, and books. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Hang Nga, Director of the Vietnam Exhibition Centre for Culture and Arts, stated that the exhibition offers visitors a deeper insight into Le Quy Don's vast intellectual legacy. Le Quy Don (1705-1770) was a towering figure in 18th-century Vietnam, making exceptional contributions across various fields including Confucianism, history, geography, literature, astronomy, and medicine. His works continue to profoundly influence scholarly research in Vietnam. Notably, UNESCO has adopted a resolution honoring Le Quy Don, a significant recognition of Vietnam's intellectual heritage on the international stage. His achievements have been acknowledged both domestically and abroad, with past events, such as those organized by Thai Binh province in France, introducing Le Quy Don and local culture. This exhibition serves as an example of how historical and cultural heritage is preserved and passed down within Vietnam's one-party system. The government supports such initiatives to highlight historical figures, aiming to strengthen cultural identity and educational applications. The re-evaluation of intellectuals like Le Quy Don can also serve as an opportunity to reaffirm the foundations of Vietnam's modern intellectual and cultural development.
