Military airstrikes on Thandwe for 2 consecutive days, 3 killed including a pregnant woman, 21 injured

Military junta forces conducted airstrikes on Thandwe Township in Rakhine State for two consecutive days on July 23 and 24, killing three civilians, including a pregnant woman, and injuring 21 others, including two children under the age of 10, the Arakan Army (AA) announced yesterday (July 24). According to the AA's statement, on July 23, the military junta forces carried out airstrikes on the Jittaw and Linsa wards in Ngapali town, and on July 24, they further attacked residential areas, schools, and monasteries in Thandwe city with jet fighter aircraft multiple times. Around 12:20 PM on July 24, a military junta fighter jet dropped two bombs near the "Shwe Yee Sa Thu Sa Thu" restaurant in Ward 7 of Thandwe city, injuring seven civilians and damaging three residential houses, according to the AA. Around 11:20 AM on the same day, the area near the aforementioned location was attacked again with a jet fighter, resulting in the death of a student who was traveling by motorcycle after being hit by bomb fragments, and the death of another civilian. Additionally, 10 more people were injured, the statement said. Furthermore, around 12:26 PM on July 24, military junta forces conducted two airstrikes with jet fighter aircraft near a school in Yaukauk village, Thandwe Township, causing damage to some school buildings. Around 3:40 PM on the same day, a jet fighter aircraft dropped two bombs and attacked near the Thathana Yaung Chi Oo Monastery and school in Yaung Chi Oo village, Ward 8 of Thandwe city, according to the AA. The bombs fell and exploded within the monastery compound and the compound of houses next to the school, killing pregnant woman Daw Nway Thuzar on the spot from bomb fragments. Four civilians, including two children under the age of 10, were injured, and the monastery, school, and two residential houses were damaged, the statement indicated. According to the AA, the military junta's two consecutive days of airstrikes resulted in the deaths of three civilians, including a pregnant woman, in Thandwe city, and injuries to a total of 21 people, including two children, as well as damage to schools, monasteries, and numerous residential houses.
