Vietnam to Disburse Pensions via VNeID App from January 1

Vietnam is set to commence the disbursement of pensions and social security benefits through the national digital identity application, VNeID, starting January 1, 2026. This initiative aims to streamline the payment process for citizens and enhance the digitalization of government services. To access these benefits via VNeID, citizens will be required to integrate their social security accounts with the app. This transition is expected to facilitate safer and more efficient digital transactions, moving away from traditional cash or bank transfer methods. Under its one-party system, the Vietnamese government has been prioritizing the development of digital infrastructure and the online delivery of administrative services. The VNeID app serves as a comprehensive platform for citizen identification, administrative procedures, and now, social security payouts, reflecting Vietnam's push to leverage digital technology for improved public services and economic efficiency amid its growth. However, challenges such as ensuring widespread public awareness and addressing the digital divide, particularly for the elderly and those in rural areas with less familiarity with smartphones, are anticipated. Robust support systems will be crucial for these demographics to ensure inclusivity.
