Leyte School Receives Shooting Threat, Police Investigate

MANILA, Philippines — A public high school in Leyte received an online message containing a threat to shoot students and school personnel on Monday night, according to the Department of Education. Upon receiving the threat at around 11 p.m., Leyte National High School principal Bayani Adona immediately sought the help of the police. The report was referred to the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit for possible identification of people behind the threat. The school did not cancel classes after authorities implemented security measures ensuring the safety of students, teachers and school personnel. “The Tacloban Schools Division Office condemns any act intended to threaten, intimidate or instill fear within our school communities. Such actions are irresponsible, unlawful and undermine the safe learning environment that every learner and education worker deserves,” TSDO superintendent Sherlita Palma said.
