Vietnam, Belgium Foster Cooperation on Child Protection in Digital Environment

A delegation from the Vietnamese National Assembly met with representatives from the Committee on Justice of the Chamber of Representatives of Belgium. The two sides discussed policies and practices related to protecting children in the digital environment. During the meeting, discussions focused on child protection in online spaces, as well as the development and enforcement of relevant legal regulations and the challenges encountered. Belgian lawmakers affirmed their willingness to share their experiences, including both successes and difficulties encountered during the law-making and enforcement process. This exchange is expected to provide valuable insights for Vietnam as it seeks to strengthen its legal framework and support systems to ensure the safety and healthy development of children in the rapidly evolving digital society. Vietnam places importance on addressing social issues alongside its economic growth. Countering new risks associated with increasing digitalization is a pressing concern. The Vietnamese government, operating under a one-party system, has shown a proactive stance in legal reform and international cooperation to balance improving citizens' lives with maintaining social order. This cooperation with Belgium is anticipated to deepen parliamentary ties and enhance bilateral relations between Vietnam and Belgium, an important partner within the European Union.
