KNU Chairman urges to continue striving with unwavering perseverance for national equality and self-determination

KNU Chairman Padu Saw Kwe Htoo Win stated that unwavering perseverance is needed to continue striving, as the rights to national equality and self-determination based on a genuine federal democratic system, which the Karen people have long desired, have not yet been fully realized. In a message on the 79th Karen National Defence Organisation (KNDO) Day, which fell on July 16th yesterday, KNU Chairman Padu Saw Kwe Htoo Win stated that the political journey ahead for the Karen people will continue to face various difficulties. Furthermore, the KNU Chairman said that in addition to unity among the Karen people, the ability to coordinate and work with other ethnic groups and relevant stakeholders who share the same life circumstances and goals is the key to achieving their national objectives. He also added that in striving for a sustainable and modern Kawthoolei (Karen State) and a genuine federal democratic union, it must be remembered that there are rights to protect oneself from injustice and the right to resist. The KNU has stated that the coup military junta has no intention whatsoever of building the country with a federal democratic system in line with the aspirations of the people and other ethnic groups, and has a habit of staging coups with unjustifiable reasons whenever they feel their power and interests are threatened. The coup on February 1, 2021, truly demonstrates the nature of the military junta, and it is an attempt to revive the 2008 constitution and grant power to themselves and their associates by holding sham elections to maintain their power. Therefore, it is not an action that can find a solution to the political problem and resolve the country's issues, but rather an act that will further complicate conflicts and problems, and the main true solution is for the military dictators to withdraw from the political arena and for the military rule system to end, said KNU Chairman Padu Saw Kwe Htoo Win. Furthermore, KNU Chairman Padu Saw Kwe Htoo Win urged that Myanmar's administrative system should be built as a federal democratic union system with full self-determination.
