The satellite was officially launched from the waters of Haiyang, Shandong Province, China, on Wednesday (August 5th), aboard a Smart Dragon-3 rocket as part of the OSE Hyperspectral Twin Satellites mission. The launch was witnessed by Lampung Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal, along with a delegation from the Lampung Provincial Government, Shandong Provincial Government, STAR.VISION Aerospace, and several international partners. According to various sources, here are the facts about the Lampung-1 Satellite: The Lampung-1 satellite is not a standalone project; it is a collaborative endeavor between the Lampung Provincial Government and Shandong Province. Governor Rahmat stated that the strengthening of collaboration and cooperation between provinces in different countries encompasses modern agriculture, technology, investment, trade, infrastructure, human resource development, and the development of the Lampung-1 satellite is one such initiative. Quoting Antara, the cooperation is not limited to satellite imagery access but is directed towards building an ecosystem for the utilization of AI hyperspectral technology through knowledge transfer, joint research, human resource capacity building, and the development of applications that align with Lampung's needs. The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is also involved in this project. BRIN will ensure that data utilization adheres to scientific standards, data governance, and applicable remote sensing regulations in Indonesia. BRIN Head Arif Satria mentioned that data security is one of the aspects discussed and focused on by BRIN. He emphasized that BRIN will have the authority regarding data storage and assured that user data security will remain safe in the future. A Xinhua report revealed that the Lampung-1 satellite is designed to monitor agriculture and disaster risks in Indonesia, with its utilization primarily centered in Lampung. "Agriculture is one of the priority sectors, especially in supporting land mapping, monitoring crop conditions, identifying water deficiencies, early detection of plant pests, and estimating production potential. One commodity that has entered the initial exploration is cassava," said Rahmat. Data from Lampung-1 also has the potential to be developed for environmental management, coastal and marine monitoring, flood and drought mitigation, monitoring land cover changes, and more precise development planning. Lampung-1 was developed as a hyperspectral satellite equipped with artificial intelligence capabilities to assist in initial data processing in orbit. This approach opens up opportunities for data sent to Earth to be more refined and translated into the information needed by users more quickly. According to STAR.VISION, Lampung-1 weighs 300 kg and carries 22 precisely calibrated spectral channels, covering a wavelength range of 400-1,650 nanometers. The satellite has a spatial resolution of up to 5 meters and a single satellite imaging swath width of 300 km. The network of these two satellites can achieve a global revisit cycle of 5 days. Citing Antara, one of the satellite's advantages is its internal computing capacity of 400 TOPS, which enables artificial intelligence inference in outer space. The satellite is claimed to be capable of processing and interpreting imagery while in orbit, including identifying crops and assessing disasters.
