Vietnam to Maintain Current High School Graduation Exam Model, Eyes Computer-Based Testing from 2027

The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has decided to maintain the current model for the high school graduation exam for the time being. This is part of the ministry's strategy to gradually modernize the examination system while ensuring the stability of the education system. The ministry will further enhance the independence of exam administration and strengthen supervision. Specifically, it plans to expand the installation of surveillance cameras and promote electronic record-keeping, while strictly penalizing acts of cheating. This measure is in response to past incidents of cheating, including the absence of perfect scores in mathematics during a re-examination at a specialized high school in Tuyen Quang province, which led to the prosecution of 29 individuals. Furthermore, preparations are underway for the introduction of computer-based testing from 2027. This transition aims to improve the efficiency and fairness of the exams, and a comprehensive evaluation of national exam administration and consideration of preventive measures against potential irregularities will be conducted concurrently. The high school graduation exam in Vietnam is a critical gateway to university admission, and its fairness and reliability are strongly demanded by the public.
