Vietnam Aims to Boost Southeast Asian Connectivity with Asia-Europe Partners

Vietnam is demonstrating a strong willingness to enhance inter-regional cooperation, connecting Southeast Asia with the Eurasian continent. This was highlighted during discussions at a session on Asia-Europe inter-regional cooperation held on September 2nd, as part of the Eastern Economic Forum 2026. Participants emphasized that strengthening ties between regions and economies would contribute to expanding cooperation spaces, promoting supply chains, and creating new development momentum for the Asia-Europe region. Vietnam is particularly focused on boosting connectivity between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This is seen as part of a strategy for Vietnam to serve as a crucial hub for economic exchange between Asia and Eurasia. The nation plans to further promote economic cooperation with the EAEU through economic forums and other initiatives. Specific advancements include the promotion of agreements and projects between Vietnam and the EAEU. This is expected to deepen collaboration across various sectors such as trade, investment, and infrastructure development, leading to greater supply chain stability and efficiency. Under its one-party system, Vietnam's state-led economic policies can facilitate swift decision-making and execution in advancing such broad economic zone initiatives. Regarding its relationship with China, while Vietnam has a high degree of economic dependence, it is seeking to strengthen ties with diverse partners, including Europe, to maintain geopolitical balance.
