Phuket Intensifies Tunnel Repairs, Road Safety, and Sarasin Bridge Security

Phuket Governor Chotnarin Kerdsom led a safety inspection on a recent morning, focusing on three critical areas: tunnel lighting, road accident prevention, and security at the Sarasin Bridge. The initiative aims to enhance traffic management and public safety across the province, responding to heightened public concern on social media. The Governor received reports from relevant departments regarding lighting deficiencies in tunnels and emergency response systems in case of accidents. Improving visibility, especially during nighttime and adverse weather conditions, is considered key to reducing traffic accidents, necessitating focused improvements. Furthermore, specific areas with frequent traffic accidents on major roads were identified, and directives were issued to review traffic regulations and intensify awareness campaigns. Maintaining a safe traffic environment is a top priority for Phuket, a popular tourist destination with heavy vehicle traffic. The inspection also covered the security system at the Sarasin Bridge, a vital infrastructure connecting Phuket mainland with Phang Nga province. Considering potential bridge deterioration, unauthorized access by suspicious individuals, and the possibility of terrorism, enhanced surveillance and confirmation of emergency response plans were conducted.
