Indonesian Chamber of Commerce Chairman's Power of Attorney Questioned in West Java Dispute

The validity of the document, allegedly not in accordance with organizational rules, is now before the court.
In a legal dispute over the leadership of the West Java branch of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), the legal team representing the incumbent chairman has questioned the validity of the power of attorney issued by the Chairman of Kadin Indonesia. The hearing, held at the Bandung District Court on Thursday, July 23, 2026, saw Nizar Sungkar's lawyer, Jhon Sitepu, argue that the power of attorney should have been issued in the name of the Kadin Indonesia Board of Directors, not the chairman of the general assembly, as it allegedly violates organizational rules. Sitepu stated that this discrepancy could affect the legal standing of the defendant's legal representative in the ongoing trial, with the panel of judges to make the final determination. Nizar's side presented 17 pieces of evidence, including organizational regulations and financial budgets, related to the management dispute. The legitimacy of the Provincial Consultative Meeting (Muprov) of Kadin West Java, held in Bandung on September 24, 2025, which resulted in Nizar's chairmanship, is also under scrutiny. Kadin Indonesia had previously questioned the authorization for this forum and the status of Agung Suryamal as interim leader. Agung's lawyer asserted that his client had not received a revocation letter and proceeded with the Muprov based on Kadin Indonesia's directive. While Nizar was elected in Bandung, another Muprov took place in Bogor on the same day, electing Almer Faiq Rusydi as Chairman of the West Java Chamber of Commerce, who was subsequently confirmed by Kadin Indonesia. Nizar is challenging this confirmation, citing adherence to organizational rules in the Bandung Muprov, and is seeking Rp 20 billion in material and immaterial damages. Further complicating the situation, the Garut and Indramayu Regency Chambers of Commerce have filed a lawsuit at the South Jakarta District Court regarding the Bogor Muprov results, alleging violations of the basic and household budgets.
