The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement is carrying out the programs to support the well-being of the public. As a public service program, an Elderly Day Care Center was opened in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday. Union Dr Soe Win and Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman U Kan Myint Than attended the opening ceremony and cut the ribbon to formally inaugurate the Center. In his opening remarks, the Union Minister stated that there is a growing need to provide adequate social protection services for elder persons and to promote healthy ageing. He urged the staff of the center to provide care and services, and to look after the elder persons warmly. Later, the Union Minister and party observed the activities provided for the elder persons. It is learnt that the first Elderly Day Care Center was established in Yangon in 2013 as a pilot model. The center inaugurated in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory is the second such facility in the country where the elder persons will be provided with a range of services, including basic healthcare, social welfare services, recreation, platforms to share their knowledge and opportunities to engage in hobbies of their interest.
