UK Home Secretary Visits Cambodia for International Conference on Cyber Fraud, MOU Signing Expected

UK Home Secretary Lord Hanson will make his first official visit to Cambodia to attend an international conference on combating cyber fraud. The visit also aims to sign a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in preventing cross-border crimes. According to a statement from the British Embassy in Cambodia, criminal networks operate without borders today, necessitating borderless efforts in prevention and suppression. During the visit, both sides will focus on combating online scams, impersonation, and other transnational crimes that threaten global security. In addition to participating in the international conference and signing the MOU, Lord Hanson is scheduled to hold discussions with representatives from UN agencies and the media to gain further insight into the evolving landscape of cybercrime in Cambodia. The British Embassy highlighted that Cambodia's efforts to gather international partners and strengthen cooperation are crucial in addressing the rapidly growing issue of crime. Joint collaboration between Cambodia and the UK is expected to disrupt criminal networks, protect vulnerable citizens, and enhance international mechanisms for combating online offenses more effectively. Cambodia is set to host the International Conference on Combating Cyber Fraud (ICCOS) from September 23-24, 2026, under the theme: "Together Towards Breaking the Chain and Ending Cyber Fraud."
