AI Summary

A meeting in Cambodia's Kampong Thom province condemned the construction of infrastructure by the Thai military in border areas as a violation of sovereignty. The provincial military commander pointed out that the Thai army is violating ceasefire agreements and encroaching on Cambodian territory. Simultaneously, directives were issued to strengthen military duties, disaster response, resource protection, military reform, and soldier training.

Kampong Thom, September 7, 2026 -- At the headquarters of the Kampong Thom Provincial Operations Zone, Military Region 4, on the morning of September 7, 2026, a ceremony was held to disseminate recent developments, strengthen the role and duties of the Cambodian People's Armed Forces, issue several orders to subordinate forces, and announce the opening of a weekly on-site training and drill enhancement course for personnel of the Kampong Thom Provincial Operations Zone Headquarters, presided over by Major General Som Sun, Commander of the Kampong Thom Provincial Operations Zone. Major General Som Sun disseminated recent developments along the Cambodia-Thailand border, stating that the Thai military continues to repeatedly violate the Joint Declaration on Ceasefire. They have constructed infrastructure such as roads and trenches, and laid booby traps in several locations, infringing upon Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity after the ceasefire came into effect. Concurrently, several major global news outlets have published reports that increasingly reveal the reality of the illegal invasion and occupation of Cambodian territory in certain areas along the Cambodia-Thailand border. This constitutes a severe violation of Cambodia's sovereignty, human rights, and the right to life of Cambodian citizens, with some homes and land being illegally occupied by Thai soldiers. Cambodia has strived for patience, respected the ceasefire, and sought to resolve border issues peacefully and in accordance with international law. Major General Som Sun reinforced the role and duties of the Cambodian People's Armed Forces and issued several orders to all military personnel to be strictly adhered to, including: 1. All forces must be ready to obey orders to protect Cambodia's territorial integrity and its people. 2. Sufficient means and materials must be prepared to rescue citizens affected by various natural disasters, especially floods during this rainy season. 3. Efforts to suppress natural resource, forest, and fishing crimes must continue to be effective for the benefit of the nation and future generations. 4. Participation in the deep reform tasks of the Cambodian People's Armed Forces and the effective dissemination and implementation of military duty laws are essential. 5. Attention must be paid to training and learning for all military personnel to strengthen physical fitness, tactics, techniques, and troop discipline, thereby becoming qualified human resources for the Cambodian People's Armed Forces. On this occasion, Lieutenant Colonel Chhea Piseth, Chief of the Training Office of the Kampong Provincial Operations Zone Headquarters, read out the weekly training plan. Finally, Major General Som Sun announced the opening of the drill enhancement training course for personnel of the Kampong Thom Headquarters and inspected the training.
