Da Nang International Airport to Expand Terminal 1 to Ease Congestion

Da Nang International Airport in the central city of Da Nang has announced plans to expand Terminal 1, which is currently experiencing overcrowding due to a rapid increase in passenger numbers. The terminal, built on a 12.2-hectare site at a cost of VND 1.34 trillion (USD 51 million) and inaugurated in 2011, has been operating beyond its capacity since its opening. The expansion plan aims to meet the growing demand for passenger and cargo services in the coming years. Da Nang has seen a surge in its popularity as a tourist destination, leading to a proportional increase in air traffic. Congestion at Terminal 1, primarily used for domestic flights, has been particularly notable, often impacting airport operations. The expansion is expected to enhance the airport's service capacity, reduce passenger wait times, and provide a more comfortable airport experience. This is considered an essential measure for Da Nang to further strengthen its position as an international tourism and business hub. The Vietnamese government, driven by economic growth, prioritizes infrastructure development, and the expansion of Da Nang International Airport is part of this national agenda. In recent years, Da Nang International Airport has also been implementing service improvements using the latest technologies, including trials of a drone detection system and the launch of biometric priority lanes.
