Vietnam Government Convenes August Regular Meeting to Assess Socio-Economic Progress and Formulate Policies

The Vietnamese government convened its regular meeting for August, emphasizing the importance of accurately and comprehensively assessing socio-economic developments in early 2026, particularly April's performance, and formulating timely policy responses for May and beyond. This marks the first regular Government meeting of the 16th tenure, chaired by Prime Minister Le Minh Hung. Progress on legislative matters was also reported. The 16th National Assembly is scheduled to hear proposals and verification reports on the draft revised Law on Civil Status, the draft Laws on amendments and supplementations to the Law on Notarisation and the Law on Legal Aid; and the draft amended Law on Access to Information on April 9. Top legislator Tran Thanh Man urged early preparations for the National Assembly's second session with close coordination from the outset, ensuring that issues qualifying for the session are included and documents are submitted on time. This will allow deputies sufficient information and time to make high-quality decisions on important issues with long-term impacts. The meeting also touched upon a resolution directing Vietnam to effectively restructure, manage, and use regional development space in line with national planning, leveraging the strongest advantages, competitive strengths, and cultural identity of each region and locality, as stated by Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Policy and Strategy Nguyen Thanh Nghi. Furthermore, the importance of elevating awareness of the position and role of the Vietnamese community abroad was highlighted. The resolution reaffirms that overseas Vietnamese are an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation, identifying them as one of the country’s important strategic resources, a bridge connecting Vietnam with the world, and partners directly contributing to national construction, development, and defence. The Vietnamese communities in China and Japan are increasingly serving as important links between Vietnam and their host societies, contributing not only to stronger people-to-people ties but also to broader economic, cultural, and technological collaboration. Vietnam reiterated its importance in cooperation with Myanmar, supporting its socio-economic development and national reconciliation. Myanmar, in turn, values Vietnam’s development achievements and prioritizes strengthening the Comprehensive Cooperation Partnership, while facilitating Vietnamese businesses’ investment and operations in the country. Activities focusing on preserving President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings in the hearts of the people and honoring those who have followed his example, highlighting his thought, morality, and style, as well as outstanding individuals and collectives inspired by his teachings, are also underway. The study and practice of Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, moral example, methods, and style in the new development period are among the focuses of the conference. In international contexts, National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man is scheduled to pay official visits to the Republic of Korea and Mongolia from September 6 to 11. Additionally, Vice State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan held meetings with the UN Secretary-General and others on the sidelines of the expanded Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek. In a statement posted on the website of the US Department of State, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio commended Vietnam’s growing leadership as a partner to the US. Vietnam attaches great importance to its special solidarity, friendship, and comprehensive cooperation with Cuba, and believes the Cuban Party, State, and people will achieve new successes in national development, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long.
