Cambodia Holds Ceremony for Cultural Succession and Buddhist Support: Politician Urges Unity and Development

Phnom Penh, Cambodia – July 26, 2026 – Lawmaker Ke Kim Yan, representing the constituency of Banteay Meanchey province and serving as a high advisor to the King, presided over a significant ceremony on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Wat Kiri Chum Cham Knar in O'Ambel commune, Serei Sophorn city. The event saw the presentation of alms, offerings, and monetary donations to 23 pagodas within Serei Sophorn city, in preparation for the upcoming Buddhist Lent season. The ceremony was attended by esteemed guests including Senators, Members of Parliament, the Provincial Council Chairman, the Provincial Governor, local working groups, and numerous city, commune, and village authorities. In his address, Mr. Ke Kim Yan elaborated on the profound significance of the offerings. He stated that donating alms and offerings to monks observing the Vassa period not only fulfills religious obligations but also serves as a testament to the perpetuation of noble cultural values, morality, and traditions inherited from Khmer ancestors. He further emphasized that scriptures, pagodas, and monks are crucial foundations for educating and guiding the public towards good deeds, love, and mutual understanding. "Our collective effort to preserve and support Buddhism is equivalent to safeguarding our mental peace and national cultural values for perpetuity," he remarked. Mr. Ke Kim Yan also recalled the comprehensive peace achieved under the "Win-Win Policy" led by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Chairman of the Senate, and the dynamic leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. This leadership, he noted, has fostered parallel growth in both the religious and secular sectors, leading to improved living standards for citizens and full freedom to practice diverse beliefs harmoniously. In conclusion, Mr. Ke Kim Yan urged all monks and Buddhist followers to maintain internal solidarity within their communities, contribute to social security and safety by diligently adhering to the "Safe Village-Commune-District" policy, and collectively strive for further prosperity and development in their localities. It is noted that the 23 pagodas in Serei Sophorn city received the Vassa alms, offerings, and financial support to sustain the monks during their three-month retreat, reflecting the deep compassion and benevolent spirit shared between the leadership and the people of Banteay Meanchey province.
