Poipet Province Selected as Pilot for National Game Development Education Program
Cambodia's Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport, with UNICEF support, is launching a "Game Changers Coalition (GCC)" program to foster digital education. Poipet Province has been chosen as the first national pilot site for the upcoming academic year, aiming to cultivate IT skills and address the gender gap.
The Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport, with support from UNICEF, is actively promoting digital education transformation through the implementation of the "Game Changers Coalition (GCC)" program. This innovative technological initiative bridges education and life skills, supporting the Ministry's reform priorities in line with the vision of H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth, and Sport. It also aligns with the Royal Government of Cambodia's "Rectangular Strategy Phase I," focusing on human resource development and building a digital economy and society. For the new academic year, Poipet Province has been selected as the first national pilot province to implement this game development education program. This selection is due to the strong commitment of the Provincial Department of Education, Youth, and Sport and the potential for digital education infrastructure development in schools. The high attention, full support, and active facilitation from the leadership of the Provincial Department of Education, Youth, and Sport have become a crucial driving force, mobilizing and guiding all target high schools to participate with enthusiasm and the highest sense of responsibility. To ensure the success and sustainability of the program at the local level, the Digital Transformation Department has organized a two-phase training campaign for leaders of the Provincial Department, school administrators, and ICT lead teachers from all 17 schools in Poipet Province. According to the Digital Transformation Department, the game development education program not only provides technological knowledge and promotes active learning, which are essential for digital education transformation, but also serves as a crucial mechanism for eliminating the gender gap. The program encourages and expands the participation of girls in STEM education, technology, and entrepreneurship. Furthermore, it aims to transform Cambodian youth, especially girls, from mere "technology users" into "game developers and innovators" who creatively solve real-world problems in their communities, in line with 21st-century skills.
