AI Summary

The Lao Gold Festival 2026 has opened in Vientiane, aiming to foster the development of Laos' gold industry and strengthen its links with global markets. Attended by the Prime Minister, the event serves as a platform for industry stakeholders to exchange knowledge and conduct business negotiations, part of an effort to build a standardized and transparent gold sector.

The Lao Gold Festival 2026 officially opened on September 4, 2026, at the National Convention Hall in Vientiane under the theme “Lao Gold to Global Gold,” bringing together Party and State leaders, invited guests, and domestic and international entrepreneurs from the gold and jewelry sectors. Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone attended the opening ceremony. Dr. Chanthone Sitthixay, Managing Director of Lao Bullion Bank Co., Ltd. (LBB), said the festival was organized to provide a platform for stakeholders in the gold industry to exchange knowledge, conduct business negotiations, and explore trade and investment opportunities. He said the festival was more than an exhibition of gold and jewelry, serving as a platform to connect the Lao gold market with international markets and promote cooperation among government agencies, private enterprises, financial institutions, manufacturers, artisans, designers, investors, and international partners. The festival aims to contribute to the development of a standardized, transparent, and reliable gold industry in Laos, while promoting quality, transparency, and sustainable growth in the sector. Organized by LBB in cooperation with relevant sectors, the three-day event featured exhibitions of gold bars, processed gold, gold jewelry, and Lao handicraft products. It also included seminars, gold and Lao silk fashion shows, new product presentations, and other activities aimed at promoting the development of the domestic gold and jewelry industry. The Lao Gold Festival 2026 ran from September 4-6 at the National Convention Hall, providing a venue for industry stakeholders to exchange experiences, establish business partnerships, and explore opportunities to promote Lao gold in regional and international markets. In its pursuit of economic development under a one-party system, Laos is exploring ways to nurture its traditional industries and connect them to international markets. Diversifying export channels and developing high-value-added industries are seen as crucial for addressing economic challenges, especially given the significant influence of relations with China and Vietnam on the economy. The internationalization of the gold industry could bring opportunities for foreign exchange earnings, job creation, and technology transfer, but it also entails risks such as price volatility in international markets and the establishment of fair trading practices domestically.
