Vietnamese Foreign Minister Attends US Independence Day Reception, Expresses Hope for Deeper Ties

On July 8, in Hanoi, the US Embassy in Vietnam solemnly organized a reception to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the US Independence Day. Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung attended and delivered a speech. On behalf of the Vietnamese Government, Minister Le Hoai Trung sent congratulations to the Government and people of the United States on the occasion of the Independence Day of the United States of America. Minister Le Hoai Trung emphasized that the impressive development journey over the past quarter-millennium has propelled the United States to become one of the world's leading powers, serving as a significant driver of global economic growth, innovation, and scientific-technological progress. The Minister expressed his belief that a developed and prosperous United States will continue to make positive contributions to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and around the world. Minister Le Hoai Trung expressed his pleasure in witnessing the strong and comprehensive strides in Vietnam-US relations, moving from normalizing relations in 1995, becoming friends, then Comprehensive Partners in 2013, and Comprehensive Strategic Partners in 2023. Highly appreciating the US commitment to supporting a "strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous Vietnam," the Minister expressed hope that Vietnam and the US will together open a new chapter for bilateral relations, making them increasingly stable, substantive, and effective, based on mutual respect for each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political institutions, and mutual benefit. Vietnam, as well as ASEAN, desires the US – as a leading power – to continue to be a positive factor, contributing responsibly to the common goals of maintaining peace, stability, the rule of law, and inclusive, sustainable development in the region and the world. Speaking at the reception, US Ambassador Jennifer Wicks expressed her honor in starting her tenure with the celebration of the historic milestone of the 250th anniversary of the US Independence Day. Looking back at the past period, Ambassador Wicks assessed that Vietnam-US relations have overcome past issues to achieve tremendous development today. She expressed her hope that the US-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will be built on a future-oriented agenda, spanning from economic-trade relations, politics, security, law enforcement to health and education. Ambassador Wicks expressed her hope that the two sides will continue to cooperate effectively to realize these common goals.
