Thailand Launches EV Buying Guide Amid Over 1,300 Consumer Complaints

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) has launched a vehicle and electric vehicle labeling e-book to help consumers make informed decisions when buying new and used vehicles, including electric ones, amid growing concerns over defects, dealership closures, and falling resale values. Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Supamas Isarabhakdi, who oversees the OCPB, said the guide provides key information on vehicle specifications, battery performance, driving range, warranty coverage, pricing, and mandatory labeling requirements. The e-book also includes guidance on purchasing used vehicles and pre-owned EVs, allowing consumers to verify information before buying. The guide helps improve transparency and reduce the risk of consumers purchasing vehicles with undisclosed problems. All motor vehicles are classified as controlled labeling products under the Consumer Protection Act, requiring manufacturers and dealers to provide complete and accurate information. Businesses that fail to comply may face up to six months in prison, a fine of up to 100,000 baht, or both.
