Vietnamese President Attends UN General Assembly, Advocates for Peace and Development, Holds Bilateral Talks in US and Canada

On the morning of September 20, Vietnamese President To Lam and a high-level Vietnamese delegation departed from the capital Hanoi for the United States to attend the 81st session of the UN General Assembly's High-Level Debate. During this visit to the US, in addition to participating in the General Debate at the UN General Assembly, bilateral activities with the United States and Canada are also scheduled. At the UN General Assembly, Vietnam is expected to convey a message of consistently aligning with and supporting the noble missions of the United Nations. This signifies Vietnam's intention to contribute to the promotion of peace, stability, and sustainable development as a responsible member of the international community. Particularly, in recent years, as geopolitical tensions have escalated and global challenges have mounted, the importance of multilateralism is being re-emphasized. The UN serves as the most comprehensive platform for addressing these challenges, and Vietnam places great importance on its role. This visit to the US is a significant opportunity for Vietnam to enhance its presence on the international stage and expand its diplomatic influence. Bilateral talks with the United States are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in various fields, including economy, security, and climate change. Furthermore, the visit to Canada is anticipated to involve discussions aimed at further deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries. While maintaining its one-party system, Vietnam prioritizes economic growth and pursues a foreign policy that emphasizes cooperation with the international community. In particular, regarding its relationship with China, Vietnam maintains economic ties while adopting a cautious approach to issues such as territorial disputes, characterized by a balanced diplomacy. The statements at the upcoming UN General Assembly and the consultations with both the US and Canada will likely be positioned as part of Vietnam's diplomatic strategy.
