Soldier Awarded 'Medal for Courage' Posthumously for Rescuing Electrocuted Villagers

The President of Vietnam has signed a decision to posthumously award the 'Medal for Courage' to Sergeant Kpă Thiêp, who sacrificed his life five days ago while rescuing villagers from an electrocution incident. Sergeant Kpă Thiêp, born in 2006 in Chư Sê commune, Gia Lai province, enlisted in February 2025. After completing his initial training at Company 1, Battalion 1, Regiment 28, he was assigned to Platoon 3, Guard Company, Staff Section, Regiment 28 of the 10th Division. On the afternoon of July 20th, during his leave, in Tai Pêr village, Ia Ko commune, Gia Lai province, Sergeant Thiêp discovered two individuals in danger due to an electrical malfunction. He immediately rushed to their aid, successfully rescuing Rmah Việt and Rah Lan HNom. Both victims have since recovered their health. Tragically, Kpă Thiêp was electrocuted and lost consciousness. Despite prompt emergency medical attention from locals and authorities, he passed away at 1 p.m. on the same day. The Ministry of National Defense emphasized that Sergeant Kpă Thiêp's brave act is a shining example of revolutionary heroism, embodying the spirit of courage and self-sacrifice to protect the lives of the people. His sacrifice is a profound loss for his family and unit, but it leaves behind a brilliant model of bravery, responsibility, and noble spirit for current and future generations of the military to learn from and emulate.
