BYD Atto 1 Tops Indonesian Car Sales in August 2026

BYD Atto 1 has surged to the top of the Indonesian car market, becoming the best-selling model in August 2026. Car sales in Indonesia reached their highest point of the year in August 2026, with wholesale figures totaling 81,756 units. This represents a 0.8% increase from July 2026, which saw 81,115 units sold. Compared to August 2025, sales in August 2026 saw a significant rise of 32.4%, with 61,771 units recorded in the previous year. Retail sales also demonstrated strong growth, with 83,442 units delivered from dealerships to consumers in August, a 7.7% increase from July 2026. This marks the first time monthly retail sales have surpassed the 80,000-unit threshold in 2026. In terms of top-selling models, the BYD Atto 1 reclaimed the leading position, with 5,538 units distributed in August 2026. This outpaced the Daihatsu Gran Max pickup, which secured the second spot with 4,346 units distributed. The Kijang Innova ranked third, though its sales, typically bolstered by the Reborn model, are reportedly declining. This dip is attributed, in part, to recent increases in diesel fuel prices. Following the Innova, the Toyota Avanza recorded 3,442 units distributed, securing the fourth position. The Suzuki Carry pickup rounded out the top five with 3,270 units distributed. Another electric vehicle, the Jaecoo J5, also made it into the top 10, ranking sixth with 3,214 units. This indicates a growing interest in electric SUVs within the Indonesian market. The list of top 20 best-selling vehicles also includes models like the Toyota Calya (3,001 units), Daihatsu Sigra (2,746 units), Toyota Veloz Hybrid (2,267 units), Daihatsu Gran Max (Blind Van and Minibus) (2,316 units), Toyota Hilux (2,054 units), Toyota Rush (1,880 units), Honda Brio (RS and Satya) (1,670 units), Daihatsu Terios (1,650 units), Mitsubishi Xpander (including Xpander Cross) (1,610 units), Geely EX2 (1,595 units), Toyota Agya (1,412 units), Mitsubishi L300 Pick Up (1,177 units), BYD M6 DM (1,161 units), and Daihatsu Ayla (1,013 units).
