Makassar Expands 24-Hour Gas Stations to 25 to Ease Fuel Queues

Pertamina Patra Niaga, the regional wing of Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company, has expanded its 24-hour operational gas stations (SPBU) in Makassar City to 25. This addition complements the 11 stations already operating around the clock, aiming to provide wider time options for the public to refuel and accelerate services amidst rising energy needs in various areas. The extension of operating hours is one of Pertamina's steps in responding to the dynamics of fuel queues observed recently. In the past three months, queues have still been visible at several gas stations, with a notable increase in density in the distribution of Pertalite over the last two to three days. Lilik Hardiyanto, Area Manager of Communication, Relation, & CSR for Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Sulawesi, stated that the addition of 24-hour stations is expected to offer the public more flexibility in refueling times, thereby reducing congestion during peak hours. Meanwhile, the demand for Solar JBT (a type of diesel fuel) has seen an increase of approximately 10-15% between June and August 2026. This surge is influenced by increased logistics activities, a widening price disparity, and indications of fuel smuggling activities, all of which affect consumption patterns. In addition to extending service hours, Pertamina is implementing several measures to ensure smooth distribution. These include optimizing vehicle deployment, streamlining fuel transport routes, and enhancing inventory management. Lilik explained, "These various measures are running concurrently. We assess the conditions of each region and gas station based on needs, queues, and consumption patterns. The goal is to ensure supply remains available and services to the public become more effective." Pertamina urges the public to remain calm and refuel according to their needs. Reasonable purchasing habits help maintain the smoothness of distribution and provide opportunities for other users to receive service. "We invite the public to use energy wisely and avoid panic buying. We are continuously maintaining stock and distribution, while also expanding services through the addition of 24-hour operational gas stations," said Lilik.
