WCS Holds Consultation Workshop with Communities on Keo Seima REDD+ Project Annual Plan

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia, July 20, 2026 -- To enhance local community participation and ownership in the implementation of the Keo Seima REDD+ project, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Cambodia organized a consultation workshop with community representatives on the annual financial plan for 2027. The workshop included representatives from 20 villages within the project area. According to WCS, the workshop served as a platform for communities and the project team to exchange views and share experiences and expectations, reflecting the needs and challenges faced by the communities in implementing the Keo Seima REDD+ project. Furthermore, communities provided feedback and recommendations for developing strategic plans to contribute to reducing forest and wildlife loss and improving the livelihoods of local communities. Throughout the full-day workshop, participants identified priority activities, enhanced awareness, built trust among stakeholders, and discussed collaborative solutions for sustainable natural resource use. Local community participation is a critical factor in strengthening forest management, protecting wildlife, and preserving the traditions and customs of indigenous peoples. When communities have the opportunity to participate in decision-making, they become vital partners in safeguarding natural resources for present and future generations. Source: WCS
