Vietnam Aims to Harness Quantum Technology for Future Growth

Gia Lai Province, located in Vietnam's Central Highlands, is collaborating with the National Innovation Center (NIC), the Vietnam Quantum Innovation Network (VNQuantum), and domestic and international scientific organizations to adopt and utilize cutting-edge technologies, including quantum technology. This initiative aims to apply scientific achievements to solve local socio-economic challenges and seize new development opportunities. Gia Lai Province has declared 2026 as the "Quantum Year" and plans to focus on cultivating doctoral candidates in fields such as quantum technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity. This move is intended to secure the talent pool for future technological innovation and strengthen technological self-reliance. Resolution 57-NQ/TW from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam paves the way for attracting top talent in the quantum field, forming the foundation for realizing a quantum technology strategy aimed at protecting technological sovereignty and integrating with the global digital space. This development is seen as part of Vietnam's national endeavor to enhance its international competitiveness in high-value-added advanced technology sectors, in addition to its traditional manufacturing base. Next-generation technologies like AI and quantum computing hold the potential to become new engines of economic growth. The emergence of provincial cities like Gia Lai as hubs for such advanced technology development is also expected to contribute to reducing regional disparities within the country.
