Vietnam Welcomes Nearly 9 Million Tourists in Seven Months, Signaling Economic Recovery

Vietnam welcomed nearly 8.9 million foreign tourists in the first seven months of the year, a strong sign of the country's economic recovery. In July alone, the nation recorded 1.52 million international visitors, a 10% increase from June and a 2.95% rise from the previous year. According to data from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, the surge in July was attributed to the end of school holidays, Umrah pilgrimages, and various events held in Southeast Asia and China. These factors collectively contributed to the influx of foreign tourists. In 2023, Vietnam received 15.3 million foreign arrivals, marking a 10% increase from the prior year. The country aims to welcome up to 17 million international tourists this year, an 11% year-on-year growth. The robust performance in the tourism sector is crucial for Vietnam's economic growth, which is a key pillar supporting the legitimacy of its one-party system.
