An Giang Province to Collect 170 Sets of Martyrs' Remains in 2025-2026 Dry Season

An Giang Province, in southern Vietnam, convened its Steering Committee 515 to assess the progress of its mission to search for and collect the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died during wartime. This committee is tasked with the collection and consolidation of remains of soldiers who perished in Cambodia and domestically. The province held a ceremony to hand over 14 sets of remains discovered in Cambodia's Takeo Province to the Vietnamese side. This marks a significant milestone for the repatriation of Vietnamese soldiers to their homeland. Under the slogan "Returning Names to the Soldiers," An Giang Province is intensifying efforts in the identification and collection of remains. Specifically, a large-scale operation named "500 Days and Nights Campaign" is planned to proceed with the search, collection, and identification of martyrs' remains. This initiative aims to honor the many lives lost in past conflicts, such as the Vietnam War and the Cambodian Civil War, and to bring solace to the bereaved families. Under Vietnam's one-party system, honoring loyalty and sacrifice to the nation is a crucial element of national cohesion, and such remains collection activities are positioned as an important social policy of the government. While Vietnam continues its economic growth, the scars of past wars remain. These activities serve to enhance national patriotism and reaffirm the desire for peace.
