Cambodia's Ministry of National Defense has reiterated its gratitude to Vietnam for its support in the peaceful resolution of border disputes between Cambodia and Thailand. This appreciation was expressed by Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of National Defense, General Khieu Chen, during a meeting with Lieutenant General Vu Ngoc Thang, Deputy Chief Inspector of the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam, on September 8, 2026, at the ministry headquarters in Phnom Penh. General Khieu Chen highlighted Vietnam's contribution, particularly through the deployment of its forces as part of the ASEAN observer mission, in ensuring the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement. General Khieu Chen thanked the Vietnamese government, military, and people for supporting the peaceful resolution of Cambodia-Thailand border issues in accordance with international law. He specifically acknowledged Vietnam's role in supporting the implementation of the ceasefire through the dispatch of officers to participate in the missions of the Interim Observer Team (IOT) and the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT). He stated that Vietnam's contribution is aimed at regional peace by preventing threats or the use of armed forces between the Cambodian and Thai militaries, advocating instead for peaceful solutions to border issues. Beyond border matters, the meeting between senior officials from the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense and the Deputy Chief Inspector of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense also addressed bilateral relations and cooperation in the defense sector between Cambodia and Vietnam. Notably, efforts to strengthen cooperation in inspection work were discussed, with specialized inspection units from both countries holding joint discussions in Phnom Penh. Through the outcomes of these discussions, General Khieu Chen expressed his expectation that bilateral cooperation in inspection work between Cambodia and Vietnam will become even closer. This is intended to enhance the capabilities of all officers in the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces to strictly adhere to laws, legal documents, orders, and military discipline with high quality, in accordance with general laws and regulations for military personnel. Furthermore, the Undersecretary of State requested that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense continue to strengthen mutual exchange visits for professional inspection work experience on a regular basis according to the annual cooperation plan. He also requested Vietnam to accept officers for specialized inspection training in Vietnam.
