Four women apprehended for misconduct on DEMU train

Four women who engaged in disruptive behavior and spitting betel nut on the Yangon-Mandalay DEMU train, causing distress to other passengers, have been apprehended and charged, according to a statement from the Myanmar Police Force. On the morning of July 20, four women who boarded the No. 3 Yangon-Mandalay DEMU train, in First Class Coach 1, traveling from Yangon to Mandalay, caused public disturbance by speaking loudly, spitting betel nut and lime on seat covers after consuming betel nut, and carelessly leaving containers filled with betel nut. This led to reports and complaints from responsible travelers. Consequently, a joint team comprising members of Myanma Railways and the Railway Police Force conducted an investigation. It was identified that the passengers in First Class Coach 1 were Khin Mar Lwin, Phyu Phyu Lwin, Than Than Shwe, and Khin Thandar Aung, residents of Yakaout Ward, Pinmana Township, Nay Pyi Taw Council Territory. Efforts were then made to apprehend them. The four women were apprehended on July 23 at 5:30 PM. During interrogation, they admitted to causing disturbance to other passengers on the train. As a result, a case has been filed against them at the Pinmana Myoma Police Station under Section 88(c) of the Railway Transportation Law, and further legal proceedings are underway. The penalties stipulated under Section 88(c) of the Railway Transportation Law include imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months, a fine ranging from a minimum of 10,000 kyats to a maximum of 100,000 kyats, or both.
