Lai Châu Power Company Restores Electricity to Flood-Affected Areas in Muong Than

In Muong Than commune, Lai Châu Province, northern Vietnam, the power restoration work following severe damage from torrential rains has been largely completed as of July 21st. The Lai Châu Power Company has successfully restored electricity supply to most of the affected areas through prompt action. The heavy rainfall caused significant damage to the power grid, including the collapse of 68 medium and low-voltage power poles, the washing away of one transformer, and the damage to 37 meter boxes and 77 electricity meters. This resulted in power outages for 2,276 customers, with estimated total damages amounting to approximately 10 billion VND (around $400,000 USD). Immediately after the flood occurred, the Lai Châu Power Company mobilized its personnel, materials, and vehicles to the maximum extent possible, initiating restoration efforts at multiple sites simultaneously. Following the principle of 'recovering as the water recedes,' 30 out of 31 transformers have been restored to date, ensuring electricity supply to over 2,200 affected customers. For the transformer that was washed away, a new installation has not yet been possible due to the lack of suitable land. However, all customers in the area are receiving temporary power supply through adjacent low-voltage lines. Approximately 30 customers remain without power as their power lines and homes were swept away by the floodwaters. The Lai Châu Power Company is continuing to concentrate its workforce, materials, and equipment to resolve these remaining issues and aims to restore power to all affected customers as soon as possible. The restoration efforts involved 169 officials and workers, including company leaders, the Lai Châu Power Company's rapid response team, and support from hydropower plants in the region. Despite challenging conditions such as difficult terrain and severely damaged transportation routes, the progress of the work has been maintained. Throughout the restoration process, strict labor safety measures were implemented, adhering to all regulations for electrical and construction safety, thereby preventing any work-related accidents or safety incidents. The early restoration of electricity supply has significantly contributed to the resumption of activities for government agencies, schools, healthcare facilities, and businesses, and has met the daily living needs of the flood-affected residents.
