Health Minister Highlights 'Hopeful Change' During Siem Reap Clinic Visit

Minister of Health, Professor Chheang Ra, stated that a health center he visited in Siem Reap province, which previously caused much concern, has now undergone a 'hopeful change' that brings great joy and hope. He made these remarks during an unannounced inspection of health service delivery at the Kuchas Health Center in Siem Reap province on the afternoon of September 18, 2026. Professor Chheang Ra emphasized that what he observed was not just a renovated building or a cleaner environment, but more importantly, a transformation in the healthcare staff. He noted that new leadership, encouraged and appointed from within the existing team, has brought a fresh spirit. Staff members are exhibiting greater self-confidence, responsibility, solidarity, and a clear understanding of their duties. They are dedicated to their workplace and, most crucially, are serving the public with renewed enthusiasm. This change, he added, is not only visible but also measurable. The Minister further explained that previously, the health center saw an average of only about five patients per day. Currently, this number has risen to approximately 70 patients daily, with some patients also being admitted for treatment. This increase, he stated, signifies not just a rise in numbers but a return of trust, confidence, and hope. Professor Chheang Ra continued, explaining that such inspections are not intended to find fault or instill fear in the staff. The true purpose is to identify shortcomings, assist in correcting them, provide encouragement, and motivate the team to perform even better. He highlighted that a leader's role is not merely to point out what is wrong but to make staff believe in their ability to do better and to provide them with opportunities to prove it. On this occasion, the Minister commended and encouraged the leadership and all staff of the health center, urging them to maintain this spirit, not to rest on their current achievements, and to continue improving healthcare services daily. Professor Chheang Ra underscored that while buildings can be renovated in a short period, changing mindsets, rebuilding trust, and restoring hope to the people are achievements of far greater significance.
