Kachin State CM encouraged flood-hit people

In Myitkyina Township, Kachin State, continuous rainfall caused the water level of the Nankwet Creek to rise, resulting in floodwater entering the temporary shelters and makeshift housing of the Shan ethnic groups residing along the creek. As a result, the affected families were relocated to the administrative office of Shwe Pyi Tha Ward. State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan visited and met with the displaced individuals Monday morning to offer encouragement. Following this, the Chief Minister and responsible officials provided relief supplies to the 123 flood-affected households to ensure their food needs were met, donating 123 bags of rice (24-pyi each) and 50 cartons of instant noodles. In response to a resident's presentation of difficulties faced at the camp, the Chief Minister coordinated with relevant departmental officials to address and resolve the issues. Afterward, in the afternoon, the State Chief Minister went to Myitkyina Station together with Deputy Minister for Transport U Min Naing and officials from Myanmar Railways to inspect preparations for the inaugural run of the Myitkyina–Mogaung–Mohnyin passenger train service (Up No. 49/Down No. 50). They reviewed the arrangements made for the opening ceremony of the new train service. Additionally, the State Chief Minister had visited Sunday evening to meet with 190 households temporarily residing in compounds and camps including the garden of owner U Khaung Zal in Lalkone Ward, as well as Lalkone Vetlin and Zee Ohn camps who had come from villages within Waingmaw Township. During that visit, he provided 190 bags of rice (24-pyi each), valued at 18.050 million kyat, to these households. After that, the Chief Minister and officials inspected areas in Myitkyina's Myo Thit Ward along Mingala Road, where heavy rainfall had caused drainage canals to overflow and water to flow through the ward. They also visited the location of the Ye Kyi Creek sluice gate along the Ayeyarwady River bank in Khemar Thiri Ward, where they checked the river water level and the operation of the sluice gate in discharging water from the city. They also observed development Committee staff clearing debris to ensure no blockages at the sluice gate opening, it’s reported.
