Thailand Elevates Fight Against Civil Registration and Nationality Fraud with New Center

The Thai government has announced an elevated strategy to prevent and suppress fraud concerning civil registration and nationality. A new integrated center, named "DOPA N.I.C.E. - Center," has been established to harmonize judicial processes and collaborate with a network of partners, with the overarching goals of safeguarding citizens' rights and bolstering national security. According to Ms. Ploythale Laksameechan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, this initiative is in line with Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul's directive for all government agencies to operate with utmost integrity. The guiding principle is to "Focus on Behavior, Not Name," prioritizing actions and evidence in legal enforcement over the identity or status of individuals involved, thereby ensuring equitable, transparent, and effective application of the law. The Ministry of Interior is actively pushing forward this policy to enhance the prevention and suppression of civil registration and nationality fraud. The integration of work with judicial agencies and partner networks is crucial for protecting citizens' rights and strengthening national security. The DOPA N.I.C.E. - Center is designed to facilitate swift and efficient coordination, investigation, and resolution of complex issues. It will also serve as a central point for integrating efforts with relevant judicial and other agencies, aiming to elevate the nationwide prevention and suppression of registration fraud and to drive necessary updates to laws, regulations, and operational guidelines to keep pace with current situations. Ms. Ploythale further explained that the establishment of the center represents an upgrade in the protection of civil registration data, recognized as a significant big data resource vital for national security. It also aims to standardize civil registration operational standards across the country. The public is encouraged to report any detected irregularities or fraud in civil registration and nationality matters through various channels, including Hotline 1548 (Civil Registration and ID Card Consultation Center), Hotline 1567 (Ministry of Interior's Damrongdhama Center), and the online platforms of the Department of Provincial Administration and its partner networks, to jointly combat registration fraud.
