SEC Director to Testify in VP Duterte Impeachment Trial

The House prosecution panel on Monday called lawyer Gerardo del Rosario, a director of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), to testify in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. Del Rosario has served as director of the SEC's Company Registration and Monitoring Department since October 2018. According to Del Rosario, five divisions under his department handle applications for corporations and foreign investments, company compliance, legal cases against companies, and corporate records. “Ako po ang nangunguna sa pag-manage ng pang-araw-araw na gawain ng aming departamento na ipatupad ang anumang tuntunin na inilabas ng aming management, ng aming Commission En Banc, gumawa ng stratehiya upang ang layunin na pinag-utos ng Commission En Banc ay mangyari sa aking departamento,” he said. (I lead the management of the day-to-day activities of our department, implementing whatever rules are issued by our management and Commission En Banc, and creating strategies to ensure that the objectives set by the Commission En Banc are carried out in my department.) In his testimony, Del Rosario said he joined the SEC in May 1996. He was later promoted to chief counsel, assistant director, and eventually director of the Human Resources Department. Del Rosario graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from Manuel L. Quezon University. He also obtained his law degree from the same university and was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1995. Del Rosario is testifying as a prosecution witness on Duterte’s alleged corporate ownership and shareholdings in connection with Article 2 of the impeachment complaint, which accuses her of accumulating unexplained wealth.— MCG, GMA News
