Cambodia Govt Denounces 'Territorial Incursions' at Thai Border, Urges International Law Adherence
Cambodia's government spokesperson denounced alleged 'incursions' into Cambodian territory at the Thai border as violations of international law. The spokesperson highlighted international voices advocating for peace and international law, emphasizing the government's ongoing diplomatic efforts to protect sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the rights of refugees.
The spokesperson for the Cambodian government has strongly denounced the alleged "incursions" into Cambodian territory at the border with Thailand as violations of international law. At a regular press conference on the morning of September 5, 2026, government spokesperson Pen Bona stated that voices of truth from the Cambodia-Thailand border, revealing these violations of Cambodian territorial integrity in contravention of international law, have been continuously echoing through prominent international media outlets. These voices come from individuals who love peace, from those who have been subjected to violations, and from those who value international law and world order. This indicates that the world is not remaining silent regarding the illegal invasion and occupation of Cambodian territory by Thai forces and the violation of the rights of Cambodian refugees, while the government's active, strong, and vibrant diplomatic efforts to protect national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and Cambodian refugees are ongoing. The government spokesperson reiterated to the compatriots that the Royal Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet, considers the protection of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the people as its highest priority. In this regard, diplomatic policies are being actively pursued in parallel, encompassing both government-level diplomacy and parliamentary diplomacy, to expedite the resolution of border issues with Thailand through peaceful means, based on conventions, treaties, and international law, via existing mechanisms and agreements. Specifically, the "Compulsory Conciliation" mechanism under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), initiated by Cambodia to resolve overlapping maritime claims between Cambodia and Thailand, is proceeding according to procedure. Meanwhile, the process of surveying and demarcating the land border through the Joint Border Committee (JBC) mechanism and the return of refugees to their homes are being strongly promoted by the Cambodian government as well as the international community. The spokesperson stated that the Cambodian People's Party government will continue to develop the nation to create new achievements for the country and its people, and will continue to preserve peace, which is the source of the people's well-being, even while actively resolving border issues. The implemented policy programs are consistently progressing without delay. During the first three years of the first term of the government of the 7th legislature of the National Assembly, led by Prime Minister Hun Manet, numerous new achievements have materialized, including physical infrastructure and sharp reforms in many priority sectors, especially the continued maintenance of peace, which is the fundamental basis for the development and well-being of the people. It is noted that the Kingdom of Cambodia, which has experienced peace, territorial unity, national unity, and rapid development, undergoing a new transformation over the past nearly three decades, is the result of national reconciliation through the "Win-Win" policy of former Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, currently the President of the Senate. This political culture has been passed down from one generation to another. The recent open invitation by Prime Minister Hun Manet to those with opposing tendencies who genuinely wish to contribute to the nation is evidence of the Cambodian People's Party government's unending culture of dialogue and national reconciliation, which serves as the firm and sole hope for the people.
