Cambodia: Husband Attacks Wife with Razor Over 'Stop Drinking Too Much' Message

In Kampong Speu province, Samakki Mean Chey district, on July 23, 2026, a domestic dispute escalated into a violent assault when a wife sent her husband a Facebook message advising him to "stop drinking too much." The husband, enraged by the message, allegedly attacked his wife with his fists and a razor. According to the police, the victim, Chok Samang, 32, residing in Choeung Roues village, Choeung Roues commune, Samakki Mean Chey district, reported the incident to the authorities. Following the directives of Kampong Speu Provincial Police Commissioner Major General Khim Sokkhai and under the command of Samakki Mean Chey District Police Inspector Lieutenant Colonel Sao Sophak, police forces from the Choeung Roues Administrative Police Post were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers apprehended the suspect, identified as Soy Sokkhey, 38, the husband. The investigation revealed that Sokkhey allegedly smashed plates and bowls, grabbed his wife by the head, threw her phone, choked her, and beat her, causing injuries to her left arm and shoulder. He then reportedly pursued her with a 'bandaol' knife, intending to kill her. The wife managed to escape but fell, sustaining multiple injuries to her legs and arms. During questioning at the district police headquarters, the suspect confessed to assaulting his wife and causing her injuries. Authorities confiscated evidence including one 'bandaol' knife, one axe, broken glass pieces, a mobile phone, and fragments of broken dishes.
