Vietnam Honors War Heroes and Contributors to National Cause

As the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day approaches on July 27, Vietnam is intensifying commemoration activities nationwide to honor soldiers and revolutionary contributors who sacrificed for national peace and independence. The tradition of gratitude is being upheld through the nationwide "500-Day-and-Night Campaign" to search for, recover, and identify martyrs' remains. To date, this campaign has successfully recovered 466 sets of remains in Vietnam, 174 in Laos, and 850 in Cambodia. For instance, in Dong Nai province, over 100 sets of remains have been recovered, with DNA samples collected from more than 5,000 martyrs' graves. On July 15, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam affirmed that caring for revolutionary contributors is both a political responsibility and a moral obligation, calling for more comprehensive and timely policies to ensure those who sacrificed for the nation receive the care and respect they deserve. Beyond historical remembrance, these commemorative efforts are linked to addressing contemporary social issues. For example, plans are underway to formulate a support scheme for low-income residents to replace aging motorcycles and mopeds that fail to meet emission standards, along with proposals for free first-time emission testing for motorcycles and mopeds across the city. These initiatives aim to combat environmental pollution and improve citizens' quality of life. Furthermore, in an increasingly digital society, continued investment in digital literacy is deemed essential to ensure that older people, ethnic minority communities, and residents in remote mountainous areas can confidently access and benefit from online public services. In an international context, a photo exhibition was held in Hanoi to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Vietnam, signifying the deepening friendship between the two nations. These activities underscore the commitment of the Vietnamese Communist Party, the State, the military, and society to their responsibility and profound gratitude towards the search, recovery, and identification of fallen soldiers' remains. They also serve as an opportunity for the current generation to express their deep appreciation to the martyrs who sacrificed their youth for national independence, freedom, peace, and happiness.
