Medical and Welfare Support Activities in Vietnam-Laos Border Region
Free medical check-ups, medicine distribution, and essential goods support were provided by medical professionals and volunteers in the border area between Vietnam's Thanh Hoa province and Laos' Houaphan province. The activities focused on improving children's health and supporting families in need.
Medical and welfare support activities, conducted collaboratively between Vietnam and Laos, have been carried out in the border region spanning Thanh Hoa province in northern Vietnam and Houaphan province in northern Laos. Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital, in cooperation with the Women's Union of Houaphan province and local authorities, provided free health check-ups, health consultations, and free distribution of medicines to children from Laos. Doctors and medical staff from Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital, along with local medical personnel, examined 120 Lao children. They conducted screenings for common illnesses, offered advice on care, and provided treatment. Notably, seven complex medical conditions, including neonatal jaundice, anemia, and post-brain injury sequelae, were identified. Families of these patients received guidance on appropriate treatment and nutritional care. Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital expressed its desire to continue close collaboration to ensure timely treatment for these complex cases. Furthermore, in early July, the youth union of the Bat Mot Border Guard Station, in coordination with local youth organizations, the police of Bat Mot commune, and the youth union of the Vietnam Traditional Medicine and Pharmacy University, organized the "Summer Green Youth Volunteer Campaign 2026." Young professionals, military doctors, and local healthcare providers offered free medical examinations and distributed medicines to over 700 residents in the border commune of Bat Mot. Within the framework of this campaign, the youth task force also organized a "Zero Dong Market," providing essential items such as clothing, school supplies, and household goods to families in need. Additionally, aid packages were distributed to 40 policy beneficiary households, 20 scholarships titled "Dreams for Children" were awarded, 20 gifts were given to students facing hardship, and textbooks and school supplies were donated to 354 students at Bat Mot Primary School. These initiatives contribute to the health improvement and livelihood enhancement of people in the Vietnam-Laos border region. Under Vietnam's one-party system, such community support activities tend to be encouraged as part of the government's social welfare policies. Cooperation with neighboring countries in border areas is also considered to deepen friendly relations between the two nations and contribute to overall regional stability.
