Central Jakarta Sprays Water Mist to Combat Anak Krakatau Volcanic Ash

JAKARTA - The Central Jakarta City Government has deployed 32 fleets to spray water mist on a number of protocol roads and green open spaces as an effort to deal with the impact of exposure to the volcanic ash of Mount Anak Krakatau, Tuesday. The Assistant to the Government of the Central Jakarta Administration, Prasetyo Kurniawan, said the spraying was carried out to provide services to the public while maintaining environmental cleanliness and the health of residents from exposure to volcanic ash. "Spraying is focused on the roads of the protocol and trees and city parks that are affected by exposure to volcanic ash so that the environment is clean again," said Prasetyo after the appeal for the Antisipasi Impact of Volcanic Ash from the Anak Krakatau eruption at Monas Square, Central Jakarta. Prasetyo said the spraying involved 32 fleets from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), the City Parks and Forests Service, and the Environment Service (LH). The spraying route starts from the Monas area on the south of Medan Merdeka, then heads to Tugu Tani, MH Thamrin Street, General Sudirman Street, to the Bunderan Senayan area or Youth Monument, before returning to the Monas area. Apart from the fleet, the activity involved around 150 joint personnel from the National Police, TNI, Satpol PP, and the Transportation Service to support the implementation of spraying on a number of protocol roads. Prasetyo said the spraying also targeted trees and city parks exposed to volcanic ash so that the material could be cleaned from the surrounding environment. He appealed to the public to remain calm and not be anxious in the face of the impact of exposure to volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau. In addition, he also asked the public to follow the development of information regarding the condition of volcanic ash through the official channels of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in order to obtain accurate information. "I appeal to the public not to be restless or anxious in the face of the impact of volcanic ash, implement health protocols by wearing masks when doing activities outdoors," he said. In this activity, the LH Sub-Department deployed two tanker cars and one water mist car. The Gulkarmat Sub-Department deployed two pump cars and one smoke car, while the BPBD deployed three tanker cars.
