Cambodian Journalists Among Those Receiving War Journalism First Aid Training in Turkey

Journalists from Cambodia and several other nations participated in intensive first aid training as part of the 'War Journalism' training programme held in Ankara, Turkey, on Sept. 15. The first aid segment serves as a critical component of the war journalism curriculum, designed to equip reporters with essential self-defence skills and the ability to save lives—including those of colleagues and bystanders—during emergencies in high-risk combat zones or conflict-ridden areas. During the practical hands-on session, participants underwent rigorous training on key emergency medical procedures, including hemorrhage control and wound dressing using pressure applications and splints, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for unconscious victims, and safe casualty evacuation techniques to move injured personnel out of high-threat environments without aggravating injuries. The specialised training aims to enhance the personal safety of both foreign and local reporters operating in high-risk zones while reinforcing professional standards for safer, more responsible conflict reporting. Contextually, Cambodia has been deepening its engagement with the international community alongside its economic development and infrastructure advancements in recent years. However, regional instability and conflict risks remain present. Such training is thus essential for Cambodian journalists to balance professionalism and safety while operating on the international stage.
